Course description: Level III Spanish is an honors course, which incorporates the previously acquired knowledge and skills into the beginnings of a whole-language communication tool. Greater emphasis is put on development of reading and writing in addition to the listening and speaking skills targeted in Levels I and II. Level III sets the stage for communication, strengthens proficiency through meaningful communicative contexts, builds vocabulary for success from recognition to production, follows a clear lesson progression to build in success, presents grammar concepts visually to improve comprehension and retention. Also improves the student reading skills, provides opportunities for students to experience different cultures, follows each unit of study with diagnostic reviews and cultivates better writers through a developed writing process.
Course objectives: Our proficiency target level will be intermediate mid. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to communicate successfully in basic survival situations, be able to narrate past, present, and future events with particular emphasis on the ability to use the preterite and imperfect. The course also strengthens the students reading skills by introducing them to the prose of recognized Spanish authors.
Textbook: ¡Avancemos! III will be used along with many other primary resources.
Grading: Grading will be based as close to the following criteria using a point system:
1. Homework 2. Quizzes
3. Participation 4. Tests
5. Projects 6. Class-work

Expectations:
- Students must come to class prepared with the appropriate classroom materials.
- Everyone in class is to be treated with respect.
- Students are expected to complete all assignments and participate in all class activities
- Students are expected to behave appropriately. (Refer to the student handbook)
- Any form of plagiarism will result in a zero for that particular assignment.
- Students must be in class on time.
- Make-Up Work: Any assignment, quiz or test missed due to illness or any other excused absence is the student responsibility. I will not remind the student that he/she needs to make-up any work. It is also the responsibility of the student to get the information missed the day he/she was absent. All make-up work not made up within one weeks’ period upon returning to school will receive a zero.
